Peace and Justice

~Trevor Hawley '06

“True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice”
~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

As stated in the Profile of the Fairfield Prep Graduate at Graduation, by the time a student leaves Fairfield Prep he should “recognize injustices that exist in the social order and have begun to acquire the skills and motivation necessary to make a commitment to doing justice.” To this end, Fairfield Prep offers its students opportunities to engage in Peace and Justice activities throughout the academic year.

These activities seek not only to raise consciousness around social problems which create barriers to the establishment of peaceful and just societies but strive to help students make connections between these activities and the rich tradition of Catholic social teaching and its applications in the academic and service life of Fairfield Prep.

Each November students and faculty from Jesuit high schools and universities nation wide travel to Columbus, GA to participate in the Ignatian Family Teach-In, an annual event promoting awareness of global justice issues and remembering the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador and their co-workers. Each January, students from Jesuit high schools and universities all over the country gather in Washington D.C. to witness to the dignity of all human life; especially that of the unborn. For more on the March for Life, click here.

Fairfield Prep holds membership in the Ignatian Solidarity Network whose purpose it is to facilitate and enhance the effectiveness of existing social justice and advocacy efforts currently present in Jesuit high schools, universities, colleges and other Jesuit ministries.
